Congrats, Megan! I'll ship a bag of Almond Cherry to you as soon as I get your address—let me know what you think of it! I'm super curious, and totally in love with the fact that it features Michigan cherries. LOVE me some Michigan cherries.
I saw cherries in the store this weekend, but they weren't local as it isn't quite cherry season yet. I couldn't possibly substitute the trucked-in version for local cherries. There is, in my opinion, most definitely a difference.
Speaking of things being different, I ate a burger and fries for dinner. But not just any burger and fries—the homemade kind, prepped right in my own kitchen with only the best (translation: healthiest) of ingredients. It was such a gorgeous day that we figured the grill should absolutely get used. I think the grill is what makes my summer so fantastic each and every year. (OK, well...that and perhaps the beach.)
Let's get back to my burger, clearly I am excited about it. We used a 90/10, super lean ground sirloin to which we added two cloves of freshly pressed garlic and some shakes of dried basil. On the grill, we sprinkled each patty with freshly ground black pepper.
We seasoned the whole wheat buns with some olive oil and a sprinkle of dried garlic, then toasted those on the grill right alongside the burgers.
Topped with the usual lettuce, tomato, mozzarella, Vidalia onion and mustard, it ended up looking like this:
Love.
The fries were quite divine. We sliced up a sweet potato and a regular baking potato, coated the results with olive oil and freshly ground black pepper and some seasoned salt, then baked them in the oven until we thought they were done. No frying necessary, which makes them a tad...more than a tad...bit healthier than those you might find at the drive-thru window. Just sayin'.
I'd stick around and tell you more about the above, but the above is getting cold and my stomach is getting mad. Time to eat!
Good thing I went for a power walk today.
Question: What did you have for dinner tonight?

I love the picture of your burger! I always think about how homemade burgers look so different from restaurant ones. Mine normally look like yours.
