Little Yoga Girl (and some Yoplait, too)

I don't dabble in yoga very often. Don't get me wrong—I understand the benefits. I get that it does wonders for the body. And while it's true that I play with YogaDownload on occasion, I have yet to make my practice a habit. Perhaps if I met this girl:

Inspiring, no? This little yoga girl is so stinkin' cute, and I love that she chooses to work with children—and handles them like a mature adult. Wouldn't you just love to see her teaching a group of adults? I'd certainly take her class. And this is the part where the guilt sets in. If Amandine can develop a strong discipline for yoga at such a young age, why can't I (at such a not-so-young age)? I should be doing yoga, right? Maybe I just need to find the right teacher. Or the right video. Any recommendations?

Speaking of recommendations, I got the opportunity to participate in an online presentation a few days ago. It was all about the new Yoplait Greek yogurt, hosted by Maria Menounos and a few other ladies that I had never heard of.

I heard about the event through MyBlogSpark, and signed up for why-not reasons. I'm here right now to tell you that, despite their best efforts, I'm still not the biggest fan of Yoplait Greek yogurt. And I won't hesitate to tell you as much (obvi). While it may tout "2X Protein," there's something about the flavor and texture that is decidedly off. And the ingredients are rather...sugary...if you ask me. While I realize that you don't often ask me about certain products, I wanted to take this opportunity to prove that I do not hesitate to share my true feelings. So whenever I talk about this product or that, you can trust that I'm giving you my honest opinion. Sure, certain companies may send samples my way—but they never pay me to write specific things about the samples. And if they did, I'd tell you because if I didn't believe in what they were asking me to write, well...I wouldn't write it. Or accept the money. It's that simple. And honest.

So, in relationship to this week, you can rest assured that I really am a huge fan of Terry Walters' books. Big fan, actually. (And she didn't pay me to say that.) But I did try one recipe that left my taste buds unsatisfied.

Hot Spiced Coconut Milk.

On the day that I made it, I was particularly interested in enjoying something that would warm me from the inside out. (Yep, we're still fighting cold air up here in Michigan.) Almond and coconut milks combined with ginger and cinnamon (and other things) sounded to me like it would be a winning choice.

Perhaps I just didn't make it right.
Terry, I love you, but I couldn't get it down.

If you win Clean Start, make this and let me know what you think. For now, I'm sticking to my decaf Starbucks Via packets (with a touch of honey and some Skim).

Question: Are you a fan of yoga? What finally sold you on it? Do you have a favorite yoga video I should know about?

REMINDER! Don't forget to enter my giveaway! You just might win one of two cookbooks from Terry Walters! (Contest ends at midnight EST on Friday, February 8, 2011).

My "other" personal trainer turned me on to yoga. My first video "A Gift of Yoga" has some good basics, but I'm ready to move on to some harder ashtanga or vinyasa sessions. Would love recommendations as the yoga studio around here doesn't offer these styles of yoga in the evenings. Don't women work in this city?! :-)

I definitely think that everyone should practice yoga at least once a week. I have found that I feel more open and actually breathe better than I ever did before because of yoga. But I will say that it can be hard to find the right yoga class and practice - I suggest trying out a bunch of different studios and teachers as I find that the instructor really makes the difference. I am very lucky as I have 5 awesome yoga instructors within a 5 minute walk. Good luck and let us know how it goes!!
