Goals, Plans and Resolutions

I've been pondering 2013 for the past few days, and I think I've come up with a list of goals, plans and resolutions that excite me. I won't bore you with ALL of them, because if I'm being completely honest, the list goes on forever. And I'm sure you don't really care that I want to completely purge my Reader by the end of January. So I'll stick to the items on the list that pertain (mostly) to health and fitness. I'm still working through some of them from a logistical standpoint, so they don't all fall within the SMART way of making a resolution (goal or plan). But by sharing them today, I'm setting them in stone.

1) Do yoga once a week. Thanks to a series of Tara Stiles DVDs that I got through FitFluential, I now have access to a wonderful variety of Yoga classes. My schedule at the gym doesn't really mesh with the Yoga class schedule, so I haven't been going but I desperately need the stretching. And if you follow me on Instagram, then saw that I got my Energy Flow on this afternoon:

2) Run a 5K in less than 23 minutes. I haven't done a good 5K in a really long time. I've done a variety of longer races this past year, but I'm itching for a shortie. Something that will test my ability to speed through some miles. I ran a 5K on my own yesterday and clocked in right above 23 minutes, but I know for a fact that I ran slow at certain points. So... I'm currently researching 5K races. There's one in two weeks that I could do, but I've got something else going on that day and I'm not sure I can swing both.

3) Run another half marathon. I ran my last half marathon in the fall of 2009, just a few weeks before I got married. Life has changed since then, that's for sure, but I think I've still got it in me. After all, I did just run nine miles not too long ago. What's another four? I haven't signed up for one yet, but I'm considering the 500 Festival Mini Marathon in Indy in May, the Chicago Women's Half Marathon in June and the Chicago Half Marathon in September. Anyone wanna join me? (Ahem, mom...)

4) Give CrossFit a try. We don't have a box where I live, but there are some in neighboring towns that I frequent for various reasons. I'm not sure which box is best, or which one has the right schedule for me or if I can just pop in for a workout, so I'll need to do some more research on this one, too. But so many people rave about CrossFit, and I'm dying to see (feel?) what the buzz is about.

5) Take a parent/tot gymnastics class with Hannah this summer. Our local gymnastics facility offers a parent/tot class that focuses on gross motor skill development and balance. She has to be 18 months to take it, so I'll be keeping my eye on the schedule with my fingers crossed for a summer session. She'll be 18 months in June. (But she turns one tomorrow. I can't even...)

In other news, I finally got some clips put on my cycling shoes.

I'm subbing a Spinning class in the morning, so here's to hoping I don't have any issues.

Oh, and—If you need a little motivation in the fitness department right now, pv.body launched a 30 Day Challenge that's worth participating in. But it's only available to current members, so if you've been thinking about signing up for an outfit, now is most certainly the time! I checked out the program and it's pretty fab. Think workouts, meal plans, group activities, etc. If you follow me on Twitter, use #pv30daychallenge so I can see how it's going for you.

Question: If you CrossFit, what advice can you give me? Seriously, I know nothing...

Oh....gosh....not the Indy Mini. It's a boring course through some pretty run down areas of town. The racetrack part is cool for a little while, but that coolness wears off by Turn One. I'd choose the Chicago Women's Half in June IF I were doing another half. IF. The September race means long runs in August and that's brutal. IF....

There is a great website for CrossFit workouts...it's called CrossFit Mamas. They update it everyday with different workouts. There is a CrossFit in St. Joe. Haven't been though. Also, YOU should teach a crossfit workout type class at the gym!! :)
