Choose A Healthier #3pmSnack with @DriscollsBerry

The following post is sponsored by Driscoll's Berries. I received no compensation, however they did send me a bag of granola and coupons for free berries. As always, all thoughts are my own.

I decided not to make any resolutions this year, and I haven't set any major goals to accomplish. The first half of 2014 will be spent growing this beautiful babe inside me, so now isn't the time for races or major fitness accomplishments. I'm in maintenance mode, doing everything I can to keep as much of my health and fitness as possible in preparation for labor, delivery and recovery. In essence, I'm doing what I can to stay present in everything I do so as not to get lost in life's inevitable shuffle.

One area where this is particularly necessary: Snack time.

With pregnancy nausea all but behind me, I'm finally getting back to my regular eating habits. I let a little loose in an effort to keep myself nourished while nauseous, which means I ate things and serving sizes I normally wouldn't. I mean, look this shelf in my pantry:

I've been doing well at meal time, but snacks have been a completely different story. (See photo above, in all its sweet sugar glory.) So I'm really trying to stay tuned into my hunger in an effort to start making smarter choices again, particularly in the afternoon when I can't seem to STOP being hungry.

I'm guessing this isn't a pregnancy thing, though. In fact, I know it isn't, so when Driscoll's asked me for help spreading the word about their #3pmSnack initiative, I jumped at the opportunity because we could all use a little reminder to choose healthy snacks, right? Like this blueberry trail mix:

It's equal parts spicy and sweet, and so delicious atop strawberry yogurt. Add blueberries and you get this:

A balanced, healthy snack that also tastes quite good. Definitely more in line with my snacking style, that's for sure. Yogurt and berries...I'm convinced you can't go wrong. But not all berries have to be mixed with yogurt. They're like Mother Nature's version of sweet, sugary candy. It's so easy to pack up berries, or to reach in the 'fridge for them when you get hungry. Or to throw some in a bowl (with a side of Puffins cereal) when you're working at the computer:

Computer time is the worst for me when it comes to snacks. I'm always on the computer in the afternoon, and that's when I find myself face to face with the biggest urge to snack my time away. So the healthier snacks I have on-hand and ready to eat, the better. Some of my favorites include:

• Crackers and cheese
• Anything with yogurt, like parfaits or smoothies
• Bananas or apples with peanut butter
• A bowl of cereal
• Decaf coffee and a slice of toast
• Veggies and dip, like hummus or healthy Ranch dressing:

Berries...veggies...I need more of both in my life.
