I really didn't want to run yesterday.

Well, it's September. And that means the temperature outside will be in a steady state of decline as we move toward the colder, longer, darker months that make up fall and winter. Which also means it's time to get back out there for some serious running. I tend to pull back during the summer months, mostly because it's too stinkin' hot out. And I don't have the patience for anything more than four miles on a treadmill (snore). That said, I picked yesterday as the day I'd actually get back out there—but I really wasn't in the mood for a run. It was A) still stinkin' hot, B) time for lunch and C) still stinkin' hot. So I picked the best, most interesting route I could to get me through it. (Because sometimes you have to do whatever it takes to get yourself pumped up for some exercise.) Of course, I took my camera with me.

Clearly the most motivating sight of all was Little J, waiting patiently for me right where I had left her. I told myself to shoot for 30 minutes, but I ended up going for 43. Distance wasn't a concern, but my iPod clocked the scenic tour above at 4.07 miles—which pleasantly surprised me. That said, I'll leave you with one final image. Consider it proof that I actually ran the entire distance. Yes, even up the stairs (call me crazy).

Thumbs up to a sweaty, stinky, red-in-the-face mess.

Question: How do you motivate yourself to exercise? Does it take a visual cue, or perhaps a favorite song? Tell me! I might need to try it sometime. And also, will you be changing up your exercise routine come fall?
